When planning my trip to Turkey, many friends recommended Istanbul for its history and culture, and Cappadocia for hot-air ballooning and unique landscapes. However, if asked to choose the most relaxing spot—the perfect place for a true vacation—I would undoubtedly pick Antalya.
On these platforms, you'll find a multitude of options and competitive prices. We've been using them for many years!
Located on Turkey’s southern Mediterranean coast, this city is often hailed as a “holiday paradise.” After arriving, I finally understood why countless European tourists flock here every year. With its azure waters, sweeping coastline, abundant sunshine, and comfortable resorts—complemented by a historic Old Town and rich natural scenery—Antalya is an ideal destination for both relaxation and exploration.
For me, Antalya isn’t a city for rushing from one tourist attraction to the next; it is a place to slow down and savor life.
First Impressions of Antalya: A Stunning Mediterranean Welcome
As my plane descended into Antalya, I caught a glimpse of the azure coastline through the window.
The shade of blue was unlike any sea I had seen before—so clear it looked as if a filter had been applied. On the drive from the airport to my hotel, palm trees lined the road, and the air carried the faint, salty scent of the sea, instantly putting me in a holiday mood.
After checking in, I couldn’t wait to head to the water. Seeing the Mediterranean for the first time, I finally understood why this place is a world-renowned resort destination.
Sunlight danced on the water, revealing a gradient of blues shifting from pale azure to deep indigo. Sailboats drifted slowly in the distance, while people on the shore lounged in the sun, swam, or sipped coffee; the entire city exuded an atmosphere of relaxed contentment.
I found a sunbed by the water and sat down. With no itinerary to follow, I simply watched the waves gently lap against the shore. In that moment, I felt the sea breeze sweep away all the fatigue of my journey.
Mediterranean Beaches: A True Holiday Experience
A visit to Antalya wouldn’t be complete without hitting the beach.
I started with the famous Konyaaltı Beach. The area boasts a long coastline set against a backdrop of spectacular mountains; with the sea on one side and mountains on the other, the visual impact is striking.
Unlike many fine-sand beaches, this one is primarily pebbly, yet the water is exceptionally clear. When I changed into my swimsuit and waded in, I could clearly see the stones and fish beneath my feet.
That afternoon, I did almost nothing but swim, sunbathe, and stroll along the shore. For someone like me, accustomed to a fast-paced work life, this state of not having to think about anything felt incredibly precious.
The next day, I visited Lara Beach.
Compared to Konyaaltı Beach, the sand here is much finer, and the area is home to numerous large holiday hotels and all-inclusive resorts. It is a popular choice for families, thanks to its excellent facilities and suitability for traveling with children.
At dusk, I took a walk along the coast, watching the sun slowly sink into the Mediterranean. The sky shifted from gold to orange and then to a deep purplish-red, bathing the entire coastline in dreamlike hues.
Strolling through Kaleiçi Old Town: A Journey Between History and Modernity
Beyond the beaches, one of the things that captivated me most about Antalya was the Kaleiçi Old Town.
It preserves a wealth of Ottoman-era architecture and ancient cobblestone streets, creating a striking contrast with the modern seaside resort areas.
Stepping into the Old Town feels like entering another world.

Narrow, winding alleys are lined with buildings featuring traditional wooden balconies, boutique cafes, and handicraft shops. Flowers cascade from balconies, green vines climb the stone walls, and every turn reveals a new surprise.
I particularly enjoyed wandering aimlessly here.
Sometimes I would stumble upon a quiet little cafe; other times, I would encounter locals chatting on their doorsteps. I found this authentic atmosphere of everyday life far more enchanting than the typical tourist hotspots.
As evening fell, the lights of the Old Town began to twinkle. I sat at an open-air restaurant, enjoying dinner while listening to music drifting from afar and soaking up the unique, romantic ambiance of an Antalya night.
Resort Hotel Experience: True Relaxation
Antalya is renowned not only for its beaches but also for its array of luxurious resort hotels. I made a special point of spending a few days at an all-inclusive resort this time.
At first, I didn’t quite understand why so many people preferred to stay inside the hotel rather than venture out, but I quickly understood once I checked in.
The hotel boasted a private beach, multiple swimming pools, a water park, a spa center, and a wide array of dining options. I could wake up to a sea view every morning, spend the day swimming, sunbathing, or enjoying spa treatments, and catch a show in the evening.
What I loved most was the feeling of completely switching off.
There was no rushing between tourist attractions, no need to check routes, and no worrying about what to eat next. Everything was perfectly organized, leaving me free to simply enjoy the moment.
For someone accustomed to a fast-paced lifestyle, this kind of total relaxation is a rare treat.
Düden Waterfalls: A Natural Wonder by the Sea
Many visitors to Antalya focus solely on the beaches, but I believe the natural scenery here is equally worth exploring.
The Düden Waterfalls left the deepest impression on me.
I was truly awestruck the first time I saw the water cascading directly from the cliffs into the Mediterranean Sea.
The pristine white water pouring down from above created a striking contrast against the deep blue sea. Standing on the viewing platform, the sea breeze mingled with the mist from the falls, creating a wonderfully refreshing sensation.
I lingered there for a long time—sometimes snapping photos, other times simply gazing quietly at the view before me.
Unlike the laid-back vibe of the beach, this place offered a sense of awe inspired by the raw power of nature.
Cuisine and Sea Views: The Mediterranean Lifestyle
In Antalya, great food and beautiful sea views go hand in hand.
My favorite thing to do was find a seaside restaurant and order a meal featuring fresh seafood and traditional Turkish dishes.

Grilled fish, octopus salad, vegetables dressed in olive oil, and Turkish kebabs—every dish was bursting with Mediterranean flavors.
One evening, I sat at a restaurant near the harbor, savoring my seafood and feeling the sea breeze while gazing at the twinkling lights of the yacht marina in the distance.
That sense of ease and freedom made me feel that this is exactly what travel should be about.
A City of Sunshine, Beaches, and a Laid-Back Lifestyle
As I left Antalya, my overriding feeling was a reluctance to say goodbye. It may lack the profound historical impact of Istanbul or the surreal, breathtaking landscapes of Cappadocia, yet it possesses a charm that compels you to linger.
The Mediterranean beaches offer total relaxation, the historic district of Kaleiçi is steeped in old-world atmosphere, and luxury resorts provide a comfortable stay, while natural wonders like the Düden Waterfalls add delightful surprises to the journey.
For those who love sunshine, beaches, and a slower pace of travel, Antalya is undoubtedly one of the most worthwhile cities to visit in Turkey.
If I ever have the chance to return to Turkey, I would certainly come back here—to find a seaside hotel, sit by the Mediterranean, watch the waves gently lap the shore, and savor the leisurely atmosphere that defines Antalya.
